Due to the influence of national and local policies, as well as people's increasing awareness of environmental protection, the market for biodegradable plastics is getting hot. On October 29, 2020, the first Biodegradable Plastics Industry Forum hosted by Polytpe was held in Suzhou, focusing on the production, modification, processing, application and regulations of biodegradable plastics.

Biodegradable plastic substrate including PLA, PBAT, PBS, PHA, PCL and their modified materials, mainly used in agriculture, food packaging, tableware, disposable goods, logistics and express, shopping bags, garbage bags, textiles, footwear materials, etc.

PLA and PBS in biodegradable materials are prone to generate more ester groups and hydroxyl groups due to their poor ester group stability under humid, hot and shearing conditions, while high concentration end groups can further promote degradation. In order to efficiently seal the end groups of polyester, prevent further degradation initiated by the active end groups and increase the molecular chain, chain extenders are added.

In this forum, Fine-blend® introduced the mechanism of chain extender in detail, and showed the changes in the distribution and properties of biodegradable materials after adding chain extender.
